Merry Christmas Baby,
You are sure to treat me nice!
You gave me a trip to Texas,
Now I am living in Paradise!
Santa came down the chimney,
and gave me a bow!

It's Christmas day and The Tribe is on the road. To guess where....... TEXAS!! The moral of this trip is Dad has to spill blood in Texas!! We planned this trip over Christmas vacation because we all had the time off and well who doesn't want to go south for the winter??

We have a new little member of our Tribe this time too....Declan. ( Kris's oldest boy) He has to see Dad shoot a "deer".

The hunting ranch we went to was Double Arrow Archery. Where Curtis was our guide. Now one thing Double Arrow had was BIG animals!!!

Day 1 @ D.A.:
* (Not even 10 minutes into the hunt) Rebecca shoots Red Stag
Doe~~~ It's gotta be a record!!

* That evening Kris shoots Scimitar Oryx

Day 2 @ D.A.:
* 8:00 AM Kris takes Declan into the blind
* 9:00 AM Kris wants someone to come get Declan (3 year olds are just not quiet enough)

Day 3 @ D.A.:
* DAD SHOOTS A BLACK BUCK!!!!!!!! WA-HOO!!!! The Hunting God's have blessed us ;)

Day 4 @ D.A.:
* Kalab shoots a Fallow Deer

Day 5@ D.A.:
* The tribe spends the day packing and preparing meat for the long trip home, and watching "The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh" ---19 times. Its true some people never grow up! ;)

Day 6@ D.A.:
* The tribe goes home!

So this trip turned out to be a success for ALL the hunters and I think mostly we were just proud Dad spilt some blood in Texas!!

Bears love honey
I'm a Pooh Bear!
Time for something sweet!
Yum-Yum-Yum

Hmmmm..... I feel like going to Texas again.

July 2010

I guess we were all a little depressed about our last Texas trip that we decided to "get back up and try again!" So our destination HA HA HA TeXaS.

The hunting Ranch was Bowhunter's Paradise. Jim our guide was wonderful. He kept us very full of food and stories ~~good hunting stories and medical stories too. (He used to be a Radiologist).

Day 1 @ BHP:
* Kalab shoots a Blackbuck

Day 2 @ BHP:
* We see lots of animals; they were just in velvet or not big enough
* Rebecca gets chased by a tarantula!!

Day 3 @ BHP:
* Here comes the rain :(
* Rebecca HATES Spiders!!!

Day 4 @ BHP:
* Kris shoots Spanish Goat
* Rebecca walks into BIG spider web in the trees.

Day 5 @ BHP:
* Kalab shoots Spanish Goat

So besides the spiders taking residence in the blinds. The trip was a lot of fun. Bowhunter's Paradise is defiantly a place to go, but for some reason we were not able to fill our tags :( Unless you count spiders and Grasshoppers on steroids.....then Rebecca has the record. Not to mention the dozen grasshoppers she saved by putting them in Jim's (the guides) back pack. When he wasn't looking of course ;)

Lets give Texas another "shot".....

March 2008

Our Destination is once again is to Texas. Dad still wants a Blackbuck. As do all of us other hunters. This time we were scheduled to be at the Bar E Ranch in Hondo Texas (south of San Antonio). Kalab found this ranch. It was well known and popular. So we were sure to kill something this time.

When we got to the ranch we given the day to practice shooting. I think all of us had sight problems. But we got together and was shooting good. That evening we took a drive around the ranch to get a feel of what the blinds would be like and to look at the animals. We didn't have to go far because these animals like the front lawn of the lodge to camp out. But we were assured there was more than them to hunt.

Day 1 at BAR-E:

*Everyone see lots of Fallow deer.

Day 2 at Bar-E:

* Here comes the rain!!

Day 3 at Bar-E:

* The Tribe "spot and stock" goats. Lots of them!!
* Some of the hunters and observors get a view of "Wally" the Water Buffalo

Day 4 at Bar-E:

*More Rain!!!
*Kalab shoots a Japenese Sika at dark.

Day 5 at Bar-E:

*Lots of Rain in the morning!
*12 o'clock(noon)--- The Tribe has to catch a flight :(

All of us agree there was a lot of animals at Bar-E but the rain messed with their sense so if they did come into the blind they were so jumpy we never could get a shot. But Kalab went home with an amazing Sika!!

Look out Africa ---- here we come again!

July 2008

South Africa, Africa is our destination this time. One of the outfitters we met at the SCI show was Travis from Bushmen Safaris. He contacted Dad and convinced him this was our next adventure. So once again we planned for a two week stay in Africa. Rachel was married this time. Again adding to the number of our clan. The girls this time were determined to shed blood in Africa too!! There was a total of 10 of us going (A family friend, Jesse, making the 10th person). We got the plane and flew 19 hours to Johannesburg were we met our driver, Sam. Now Sam was a driver like none ever. He could drive extremely fast with the windows all fogged over. After 4 hours we arrived a Bushmen Ranch were we met our new friends; PH Nick, his wife Lydia, their son and PH Shannon, and his wife Mette. Bushmen quickly became our dream home. The house we stayed was gorgeous. The food was amazing and the staff was truly the friendless people. The hunting was quite impressive and successful too. Safari Club International-----First for Hunters

The Mullins Clan still hasn't gotten over the Africa experience. It was amazing!! They knew they still wanted to go again. But let's face it after having your bow broken in two, and not the best of blinds. We knew we had to be smart about this next adventure.

So Dad took us to Reno, Nevada. Where there was an expo for Safari Club International. This in itself was an adventure. Over 2000 outfitters here at our finger tips. We could actually talked to them and look at pictures from their ranches. We had three days to wanderer around this large building talking to people and looking at incredible stuff. We all had bag and at the end of the day we would go back to the hotel room, look at the pamphlets and discuss which outfitter we liked the best. In the end we still didn't have one we really had made as a choice, but we had fun talking to famous hunters and just being on a another adventure,

"Deep in the Heart of Texas"

April 2006

After having an amazing time in Africa we just couldn't let this experience go. Who could really? The problem was that none of us could afford to go again either. So we planned a shorter version of Africa. The Mullins Clan is headed to Texas. San Antonio to be exact. Kalab and Kris both got married this year. Adding to the number in our group.

We landed in Austin and drove to San Antonio. You know to save on airfare. During this little drive we got to witness a women being dragged down the street by her hair and stay in a motel that was already occupied with cockroaches.

The next morning we went to see the Alamo and Sea World. We had a lot of fun, even though a lot of the animals were viewed as "targets". When we got to Mystique Ranch.....lets just say we were not all that impressed. The water smelled like sulphur and the whole ranch looked like a junk yard. So needless to say no one showered. Well except Kym whom we all made fun of on the way home....because now Kym smelled like sulphur. we had three days to hunt. Our lists were short so we should be able to fill our tags in those days. Dad wanted a Blackbuck, Kris and Kalab both wanted either a Blackbuck or Axis which ever came in. Rebecca just wanted a sheep; it made no difference what type. Easy list right??

Now these animals were trained. They knew exactly where on the road it was safe to eat and then circle behind you to get back on the road to continue to eat.

Day 1 of Hunting:
* No one sees anything
*Mullins Clan now has a new saying to add to their list of mockery and joking---" You all gunna be next!" made with slanty/creepy eyes.

Day 2 of Hunting:
*No one sees anything---Hear a lot around you though!

Day 3 of Hunting:
*Rebecca shoots the suicide Ram (Corsican Ram).
These goats came running down the road, so Rebecca draws her bow. But the goats don't stop. Then a few seconds later they come back a little slower. Rebecca draws again but never get a steady shot. Then the suicide goat comes back a third time and stands right in front of the blind. Who could argue with him???

On the trip home we put the goat in a cooler with wheels and duct taped it shut. Well everyone in the Austin airport were curious and excited to know what was in that cooler. Rebecca told them with pride," It's a dead goat! You want to see?"

The Trip of a Life Time

August 2005

Namibia Africa was our destination. None of us had ever been there. Or had a clue what it would be like when we got there. All we did know was that it was in Africa and Dad wanted to shoot a Kudu. Dad had a lifetime dream of hunting in Africa. Teddy Roosevelt wrote books about it this and it was on all the hunting shows. So we did it; we booked a hunting trip with Holstein Ranch. This was the biggest adventure the Mullins Clan had ever went on. Traveling on a plane for 19 hours to South Africa. Then to get on another plane for two more hours to Windhoek, Namibia. Where we met our guide Erich (Eric). Then we drove another 5 hours to our new home for two weeks. We all felt like total tourists as we shouted and was excited to see Baboons for the first time. Sitting beside the railroad tracks eating garabge that people throw at them.

So the boys were the ones with the money and the muscles (to pull bows). So they got to be the hunters. The nice thing about Holstein is "observers" got to go free. So Mom, Rachel, and Rebecca went along. This was by far a new adventure for all of us! We all had to get passports and the boys had to get new equipment. Not to mention the hours and hours of practicing of shooting. Then we were all studying the names of these new creatures. I think this is when we became true archers!

Our first day there the boys were on the archery ranch practicing; when Dad's bow string came off. All this work and preparations gone to waste and being destroyed on the first day. Erich our PH (professional hunter) said he could fix it. He took the bow and was out of sight. Not knowing any better and fully trusting in our guide. None of us could imagine that he went behind the house hooked the bow up to a tractor to pull the string back on. What seemed like hours before Erich returned was truly hours. When he did return with his little brother's bow that was not tuned in or had any prep work. Dad was not at all happy. But what do you do. We traveled a billion miles and had two weeks of ahead of us. So Dad took his now VERY broken bow and this borrowed bow and made the best of the situation. This was defiantly a trip of a life time. One I am sure we are to never forget. The hunters were very successful and learned A LOT!!

Day 1 in Namibia:

* The Mullins Clan meets Erich and is drives to the Ranch.

Day 2 in Namibia:(First Morning)
*Dad's bow is broken

Day 3 in Namibia:
*Kris kills a Springbok

*Kalab kills a Gemsbok

Day 4 in Namibia:

*Kris and Rebecca see a massive Waterbok. Too bad our budget is low!!

Day 5 in Namibia:

*Dad's guide is getting very upset he wont shoot something!!

Day 6 in Namibia:

*Dad kills a Springbok at dark......the Hyena's finish
it :(

Day 7 in Namibia:
*Dad finds what is left of his Springbok.

*Kris kills a Warthog at dark......Erich finishes it off with a screwdriver to its head!!

Day 8 in Namibia:
*Mullins Clan goes to Etosha National Park. Rebecca gets to see LIVE/REAL Elephants :)

Day 9 in Namibia:

*Kris kills a Blue Wildebeest

*Dad kills a Gemsbok

Day 10 in Namibia:

*Kalab kills a Kudu

*Dad kills a Kudu

Day 11 in Namibia:

*Mullins Clan is almost eaten by Leopard.....okay not really ;) Dad has a chance to kill a Leopard.

We were traveling to find Kris and Kalab a Zebra. When we got out of the truck we were all put at a sudden stop when we heard "GRRRR" which was the Leopard when we interrupted his dinner. So Erich and Dad went on a run to chase this Leopard but never got a clear shot.

*Kalab kills a Zebra

Day 12 in Namibia:

*Time to say goodbye and fly home. :(

Our Claim to Fame (in Green River)

April 1999

In our town of Green River. Outdoor activity is fairly popular. Saturdays are spent out on the lake and everyone is in anticipations for Hunting Season. I think what gave our family the uniqueness that is talked about was when our family traveled to Northern Wyoming to do a Turkey Hunt. Most people we know don't travel to go hunting. You wait for hunting season. You put in for a license. If the state does not draw your name, then you do what is called a General Hunt. Which the state has designated areas where you can hunt with a "general tag". For my family that was NOT enough!

The first Turkey Trip was the spring of 1999 . When this trip turned out to be a success and a lot of fun. It became a trip that was repeated every Spring. The first year the turkeys were shot with rifles. The next year was an attempt with bows. Every year was a different adventure. The first was a new experience. We were trying something new in a unfamiliar area. As always in hunting you never know what to expect. The animals are always unpredictable but that's what adds to the excitement.

The Mullins Family

It has been said to me on several occasions that our family is one of a kind. Now besides the odd sense of humor we have or Kris's ability to sound like an elephant when he blows his nose. I guess in some way we are special. In times like these when the word "family" is just associated with someone you are related to rather than someone you actually spend time with. Now spending time together is not something we lack in. But the real special part I think most people are amazed about is how we spend time together. From the Beginning and HOPEFULLY to the end; our time together has been and will be outdoors!

When it was suggested to me that we should document our adventures I thought the process would be easy. Boy was I wrong! My first thought was to start from the beginning to really get a since of where our Family comes from, and then I thought well there is so much going on now that is too exciting to keep hidden. So I decided to mix it up-- Past with the Present! So as you now notice this is not going to be in chronological order, but I hope you will enjoy it still the same.

As I think back on my childhood. I can't remember a Saturday when our family WASN'T outdoors. It was expected! No matter what the season was you knew what would happen on Saturdays. If it was Winter; we were ice fishing. If it was summer; we were camping. If it was Spring; we were hiking with a picnic lunch of course. Fall; we were loaded up in the back of the truck while Dad went hunting. (Just a little hint of what our childhood was like)

Let me introduce you to the "Mullins Clan" (Is what we usually call ourselves) Yes, we are Scottish hence the word "clan". Now there is seven of us. Larry (Dad), Bonnie (Mom), Sam, Kris, Kalab, Rachel, and Rebecca. Now do you notice a lot of doubles in the list?? Double K and double R?? Well there is a reason for that. See Bonnie has the ability to make babies in doubles. Kris and Kalab are twins. Then 3 years later Rachel and Rebecca are twins. No twins are not common in our family and no she was not on any medication. There is one more important person that I want to mention because he was apart of so many of our adventures. That is Larry (Grandpa).

Okay so I think you have a since of what we are about and who we are. From here on out is the important stuff.....the adventures. So keep reading and enjoy!!
